Jordi Costa, the founder of Taller de Picasso gallery, is the grandson of Vicenç Martínez, one of Barça’s best strikers. The Barcelona striker (1896 – 1963) is one of the greatest scorers in the history of FC Barcelona, with a total of 200 goals between 1912 and 1923. In addition, Martinez owned the building that had hosted the first workshop of the artist Pablo Picasso in Barcelona. Jordi Costa inherited from his grandfather this building to open his art gallery.

Jordi Costa’s grandfather soon played in Barça’s first team (1915-23), when he was barely 19 years old. Martínez won five catalan Championships (1916, 1919-22) and two State Cups (1920, 1922). He was also selected to participate in the Olympic Games in Antwerp (1920).

Vicenç Martínez played midfielder and striker center, and played a total of 261 matches. Therefore, he had almost signed an average of one goal per game. He was part of the Catalan team in 7 matches and scored 3 goals. When retiring, he was object of a homage in Les Corts (old Barça’s stadium), 17 of June of 1923.
